Photographing shore birds with Ray Hennessy
My Photography Journey
Margie’s path to photography began with a prophetic suggestion nearly forty years ago: "You will benefit from finding a creative outlet." While early attempts at painting and drawing left her feeling uninspired, she eventually discovered that her "good eye" simply required the right tool. Decades after that initial advice, she picked up a camera and finally found her voice.
Her work is a testament to the power of persistence and the beauty of the natural world. Specializing in shorebirds and coastal landscapes, Margie’s photography often focuses on the fleeting, intimate moments of nature—an egret in mid-flight or the soft, late-afternoon glow hitting a sandpiper’s feathers. Her style has evolved from a strict adherence to traditional composition to a more creative, intuitive approach that seeks to evoke the same sense of wonder she feels while wading through marshes or resting on sandy beaches.
Having earned "Best in Show" at the Philadelphia Flower Show and the "Certificate of Excellence in Photography" from The Garden Club of America, Margie has seen her talent widely recognized. Beyond her own work behind the lens, she is a respected photography judge, journeying across the country to share her expertise and evaluate entries at Garden Club of America flower shows.
While she treasures the solitary peace of her craft, Margie also finds deep fulfillment in the camaraderie of the photographic community. Whether traveling to the Galapagos or local shores, her journey is defined by a commitment to growth and a gratitude for the friendships forged along the way. Today, she remains dedicated to sharing the world's natural elegance through her lens.
